August 29, 2008Ceiling-Shattering Election Season
by by Caryn RivadeneiraTweet
A few moments ago, as I looked over my friend's Facebook status updates (if you're not on Facebook.com, these are sentences people write to tell everyone what they're doing, thinking, or feeling), I saw that each update sizzled with election fever. And what's not to be excited about?
No matter what "side" you're on, no matter which issues matter most to you, or no matter whom you'll vote for, we're looking at history in the making. And that rocks.
Last night many of us were electrified by Barack Obama's dazzling speech. This morning many of us were cheering on Sarah Palin - a governing mom! - as John McCain's presidential running mate.
And right now, we're preparing for a season of campaigning, which will mean mudslinging and nastiness, to be sure, but it also brings us closer to a day when a long-standing, though slightly smudged, glass ceiling will be shattered - no matter which candidate wins. And though I certainly have my preference (as I'm sure you do), in a way, it's a good day for everybody when these ceilings come crashing down.
Thoughts?

I'm a christian and an african american women. I have to admit I was pretty hard on barack Obama at first. But I saw how the Lord has been using him healing this country of deepseated wounds..i know I have them. I feel that he has great ability to be a leader..better minister though. But i will pray the Lord's will to be done. I also know we are at war, not just physically but spiritually, christianity is under attack and it is keenly shown through john mccain being the soldier and Sarah Pallin being the mom. Isn't it ironic..God wants us to recognize the war against the Jesus, marriage, the unborn child and the injustices of the past. It is my hope that through this election America will obey Gods laws, and whoever wins they will obey God's leading. Although I believe life is the most important issue...We must pray for whoever wins and hope that the will of the Lord be done.

At the start I was rooting for Ron Paul. He seemed to just lay out the true issues without discretion. It seemed obvious to me that he had no hidden agenda whatsoever and seemed trustworthy!
But since he didn't get any airtime, he had to drop out.
If I were to choose between Obama and McCain, I would choose Obama. As per history shows, republican presidents tend to bring the economy down. Democrats on the other hand, like Clinton, seem to turn debts into surpluses. Oh, and not to mention, when McCain was asked "What of Iran..." he answered by singing, "Bom, Bom, Bom... Bom Bom ..." without mentioning Iran but I think too little too late.
Comments, criticisms?
Also check out Election

Senator McCain's running mate is Sarah Patlin, not Batlin

Sarah Palin ROCKS!
She's not only a devoted mom and willingly gave life to a Down's Syndrome boy, but she took on big oil, the good old boys network, the status quo, took on members of her own party and so much more. I'm really excited to have such an intelligent, capable and experienced woman running for VP. Obama's people say she's got not enough experience, but the fact is in the short time she's been in office, she's already accomplished many of the things that he's not done yet but has said he'll do.
Some politician posed the question "Are youy better off now than you were 8 years ago" and I can truthfully say YES--more than I ever dreamed possible. After years of "paying my dues" in ministry God blessed me with my dream job-a fulltime salaried Hospice Chaplain with the most awesome and highest salary & benefits package that I have ever made in my entire life. All praise goes to God who bestowed this blessing upon me. Without Him, it would never have been possible. I pray that as I am faithful to this call, people will see Jesus in me so that He is glorified and many will be drawn to Him.

Hey, Saul: Thanks for catching the typo! I just fixed it. Balin was probably my brain mixing Biden and Palin (you know, like Brangelina, except not really....). But either way, I don't think there's a "t" in there. : )

Ah, the glass ceiling...how right you are. It's going to shatter and come down, no matter the outcome. Be it voting in an African-American man or a woman, this election is forcing us outside of our comfort zones and maybe even our attempts at using scripture to justify sexism or gender and race issues. I hope that we can all practice what we preach and see beyond the categories ourselves...so that instead of voting for an African-American or a woman, we can vote for a leader of the people and a visionary. If there's any question which side I stand on, just check out my FaceBook status line! ;-)

No matter who wins, it's an historic moment for the U.S. And terribly exciting.

This is such an exciting time for our country. My sister-in-law is telling all her friends "if you don't get out and vote, and your candidate doesn't get in, it's your fault and you forfeit your right to criticize whoever does get in."
On another note, the "first dude" is gaining popularity with the men on my staff. :o)
