God Will Make a Way
What are we waiting for?
There’s an idea floating around Christian women’s circles. I’m hearing it more frequently. I’ve heard it from missionary colleagues and women at church. I’ve read it in books and seen it posted in comments on blogs. It goes something like this: If God has gifted and called a woman to lead, teach, pastor, or preach then he will make a way for her to fulfill that calling.

We talk about God making a way in terms of “open doors,” as in, “God will open a door for you to preach,” and in terms of time, as in, “At the right time, God will give you the place to use your gifts.” While these sentiments are true on one level—God is absolutely powerful and capable of opening doors and placing his daughters where he wants them—on another level, they trouble me deeply. I believe they represent two faulty ways of thinking that affect many Christians—men and women—today.
Synergy 2007 Update
Saturday at Synergy 2007 has been a pleasure. I continue to be impressed with the group of women who have found their way to this event . Like Gifted for Leadership, Synergy is a community of gifted women who represent great potential for powerful ministry in the name of Christ.
In our plenary session this morning, we heard again from Dr. Alice Mathews. She talked about "synergy" - what it means and why it's important. Basically, to achieve synergy, you must have all the parts of a whole present and engaged and working together in unity. This certainly is true for the church. Synergy, she pointed out, is essential for our work of spreading the gospel.
Dr. Mathews focused especially on the importance of a specific synergy in our lives: synergy among Christ, the Living Word, and the Bible, God's written word. She challenged us as leaders to carefully handle the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15).

Welcome to Gifted for Leadership!
Welcome to Gifted for Leadership! This blog is designed specifically for Christian women who are capable, called, and gifted leaders. Unfortunately, many Christian women in leadership feel alone in their calling. They need a place where they can converse about the issues they face, encourage one another, and challenge each other. They want something different from the women's ministry resources and events that discuss issues unique to women. They want tools that visit topics that are not unique to women, but that approach them from a woman's perspective.
That's why we're producing a free monthly e-mail newsletter (have you signed up?), this blog, and - coming soon - a collection of downloadable booklets. These tools will equip, encourage, challenge, and unite women who exercise leadership gifts in church and parachurch ministry, in business, and at home. They'll also build a community of women with leadership gifts who can challenge and support one another and grow together.
This site is a resource of Christianity Today International, produced in partnership with the editors of LEADERSHIP JOURNAL. I'm very excited to launch this blog and to tell you about our Gifted for Leadership philosophy:
